Weippe Prairie - ID. On September 22, 1805, the expedition was near starvation. Clark's hunting party reached the Weippe Prairie and met the Nez Perce who were harvesting camas roots. They welcomed Clark and his men with a feast. A man was sent back to the main party with a horse loaded with camas roots and salmon. Clark then met with Twisted Hair, a Nez Perce chief.
